Geotechnical Engineer | Senior Project Manager | 5-10 years’ experience

GRANT is seeking an experienced Professional Engineer who is looking for an opportunity to support the growth of this product line and manage staff engineers, for a 15-person engineering firm that is anticipating significant growth over the next two years. This is a great opportunity for someone who has spent their career working towards a leadership position in this field and is interested in greatly influencing the next stage of development of a small business.

Details

Under the direct supervision of the firm’s Owner and Founder, the Senior Project Manager – Geotechnical Engineer will develop and lead a major division within the firm, including external (existing and target clients) and internal (cross-sell with other Senior Project Managers) marketing, preparation of proposals, client management, project management, and team leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and conducting subsurface investigation and laboratory testing programs.
  • Performing geotechnical analyses and design of shallow and deep foundations, shoring of excavations, underpinning of existing buildings, embankments/cuts, earth retaining systems, etc. for various projects.
  • Planning and performing of pre-construction and during construction monitoring including but not limited to optical, vibration, etc.
  • Develop and produce technical drawings, calculations, and specifications.
  • Preparation of geotechnical memorandums and reports.
  • Providing geotechnical support during construction.
  • Management of field inspections for geotechnical construction items.

 

Education

  • BS in Civil Engineering program from an ABET accredited school of Engineering.
  • MS in Civil Engineering with Geotechnical Engineering focus (preferred but not a prerequisite).

Experience

  • Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in geotechnical engineering practice.
  • Solid knowledge in geotechnical engineering principles with the ability to perform geotechnical design and analysis.
  • Strong background in soil and rock mechanics.
  • Knowledge using geotechnical engineering software such as PLAXIS, SLOPE/W, APILE, LPILE, GROUP, etc. is preferred but not a prerequisite.
  • Proficiency using AUTOCAD and experience using REVIT is a strong plus.
  • Ability and willingness for some travel and field work.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Committed to personal and professional development.
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • PE is strongly preferred but can be waived for high potential candidates with ability to obtain within 1 year.

Structural Engineer | Staff Engineer | 2-5 years’ experience

GRANT is seeking a junior to mid-level Structural Engineer with an understanding of reinforced concrete/steel/timber/masonry design and construction, for a 15-person engineering firm that is anticipating significant growth over the next two years. This is a great opportunity for someone who would like to grow their career and learn from an experienced Professional Engineer in a position that allows for rapid growth.

An appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate experience with the preparation of calculations, structural analysis, engineering drawings, and specifications for structural design, as well as demonstrate a working knowledge of the New York City and International Building Codes, as well as material codes.

Responsibilities

  • Execute project deliverables on schedule and within budget.
  • Prepare engineering drawings and specifications for structural design.
  • Perform engineering calculations of structural elements such as roof, beams, walls, and foundations for concrete, wood and steel materials.
  • Conduct structural inspections of building under repair/renovation and new builds.
  • Assist managing the client relationship and deliverables.
  • Assist in preparing of code studies, written reports, and code compliance reviews for client work.
  • Conduct shop drawing reviews and field inspections of new and existing construction.
  • Conduct existing condition assessments and inspections of structural installations.

 

Education

  • BS in Civil Engineering program from an accredited School of Engineering.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2-4 years’ experience in a consulting engineering environment offering Structural Engineering services, with a minimum of 2 years’ involvement in New York City projects.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Job responsibilities as described in ASCE Professional Grade Engineer 2.
  • Solid working knowledge of structural design principles.
  • Working knowledge of computer software related to structural design (e.g. RAM, Etabs or SAP2000).
  • Proficiency with AutoCad and REVIT.
  • Committed to personal and professional development.
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

Special Inspector | Building Construction | 5 years’ experience

GRANT is seeking a special inspector with at least 5 years’ experience performing DOB inspections in New York City, to join a 15-person engineering firm that is anticipating significant growth over the next two years. This is a great opportunity for someone who would like to grow their career learning from very experienced engineers and inspectors in a role that allows for rapid growth.

Details

An appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate experience providing high quality inspections with associated timely reporting, as well as demonstrate a working knowledge of the New York City and International Building Codes, as well as material codes. This candidate will also demonstrate a desire and ability to train junior inspectors.

  • Independently perform NYC TR-1 & TR-8 special inspections under the review of a NYS PE.
  • Demonstrate a solid working knowledge of building construction, including engineered systems.
  • Execute high quality project deliverables, including inspection reports, field sketches, test procedures and schedules, reliably and on schedule.
  • Conduct existing condition assessments and structural inspections of buildings under repair/renovation and new builds.
  • Obtain further industry certifications to support the breath of services offered.

 

Education

  • BS in Civil Engineering program from an accredited School of Engineering (Preferred)

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience offering structural or geotechnical inspections in NYC projects.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • OSHA construction 10-hour training and certification.
  • Welding & Mechanical Certifications.
  • Solid working knowledge of structural and/or geotechnical plans and design principles.
  • CAD / Revit Skills (Preferred).
  • FE Certified, with the desire to pursue PE.
