Structural Engineer / Project Manager

We are actively seeking a creative, highly talented Structural Engineer/Project Manager with a deep understanding of reinforced concrete/steel/timber/masonry together with the ability to manage some geo-technical projects such as shallow and deep foundation design, support of excavation system design, etc.

The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate experience with the preparation of engineering drawings and specifications for structural design, as well as demonstrate a working knowledge of the New York City, New York State and International Building Codes, NFPA standards, and Federal Government Standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Position requires client-focused interactions.
  • Interact and manage owners, architects, contractors, sub-consultants and junior in-house staff.
  • Execute project deliverables on schedule and budget.
  • Quality check / quality assure work prepared by junior staff.
  • Preparation of engineering drawings and specifications for structural design
  • Perform engineering calculations of structural elements such as roof, beams, walls, and foundations for concrete, wood and steel materials
  • Conduct structural inspections of building under repair/renovation and new builds
  • Assist managing the client relationship and deliverables
  • Perform engineering calculations of structural elements such as roof, beams, walls, and foundations for concrete, wood and steel materials
  • Prepares construction contract documents for structural design
  • Assist in preparation of code studies, written reports, and code compliance reviews for client work
  • Conducts shop drawing reviews and field inspections of new and existing construction
  • Conducts existing condition assessments and inspections of structural installations
  • The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to those stated above

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in a consulting engineering environment offering Structural Engineering services, with a minimum of 4 years’ involvement in New York City projects.
  • Strong communication skills interacting with and manage owners, architects, contractors, sub consultants and junior in-house staff.
  • A desire to eventually manage a small team
  • Must be able to prepare scopes, schedules and budgetary estimates for new projects/tasks. Focusing on cost control and scope creep.
  • The ability to manage 20-30 mini projects simultaneously
  • Must be able to manage available in-house labor resources (junior staff, drafters, accounts)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering license in New York State
  • Job responsibilities as described in ASCE Professional Grade Engineer IV
  • Master’s degree in Structural and/or Geotechnical Engineering preferred but not essential.
  • Solid working knowledge of Structural design principles.
  • Working knowledge of Geotechnical design principles.
  • Solid working knowledge of computer software and hardware related to structural design (ie — SAP2000).
  • Solid working knowledge of AutoCad.
  • Team Player
  • An understanding of the needs of a small organization vs large corporation
  • IT proficient — Proficient in MS Project or other PM Tool

We are presently seeking experienced Field Technicians to perform special inspections in compliance with NYC DOB requirements.

Candidate Qualifications
Requirements for Technicians vary depending on the type of work to be performed.

  • Experienced Field Inspector in NYC.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in NYC.
  • Knowledge of construction schedule of activities / sequencing and general practice.
  • Subcontractor coordination (Vendors).
  • Field reporting.
  • Excellent communication skills.

 

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering / Architecture preferred.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 hour Construction Industry Certification.
  • ICC or AWS Structural Certs (both Welding and Bolting).
  • ACI Concrete Inspector / Concrete Field Technician.
  • Spray applied fireproofing special inspector.
